Maui is the place to see humpback whales. Each year these magnificent creatures migrate south from Alaska, and although you can see them throughout Hawaii, the ‘Au ‘au channel off the coast of Maui boasts the greatest number. Our warm, relatively shallow and protected waters make an ideal location for the humpbacks to mate and give birth to their calves. These whales are known for their acrobatics, and are often seen fully breaching out of the ocean!
We generally spot humpbacks on all of our trips during the winter, but this season we’re offering an exciting opportunity to Sail with the Whales! We’ll embark from Mā’alaea harbor and set sail in the afternoon Tradewinds. This trip is exclusively sailing, so we can head to wherever the whales may be.
Sail Maui operates Maui’s fastest, high performance sailing catamarans: the twin vessels Paragon and Paragon II – each of which features new construction techniques and hull design, paired with state-of-the-art rotating carbon fiber masts.
They strive to be the most intimate and authentic catamaran sailing in Hawaii and work hard to train their friendly and knowledgeable crew to be skillful sailors who love to be out on the water and show their guests the very best of Maui.
If you’re looking for an adventure you’ll not soon forget, look no further. With destinations to snorkeling sites only accessible by boat like Molokini and Manele Bay on Lana’i, you’ll have access to some of the most spectacular reefs in Hawaii and get to experience trade wind sailing at its finest.
