A very affordable 30-minute helicopter tour that takes you on a flight along the Kona coast during sunset.
Everybody loves a good sunset, but did you know that there is something incredible about sunsets on the Big Island? The setting, with white sand beaches, an azure blue ocean and pitch black lava fields, is of course amazing, but the volcano is also helping a bit!
Whenever there is an active eruption at Kilauea there is an increase of small particles in the air downwind (along the Kona coast). These small particles scatter light in such a way to make the sunset extra red! The scattering responsible for our fantastic sunsets is called “Rayleigh scattering” and is the same process that makes a lunar eclipse red, and the sky blue!
