The Waikoloa coast is so popular due to it’s exceptionally dry and sunny weather. It almost never rains, clouds are rare, and temperatures range from pleasant to superb. This makes sense when you know that the official climate zone designation for this part of the Big Island is ‘Desert’.
You can see this in more detail below, where we present you the yearly averages at Waikoloa for the temperature, the precipitation and the number of cloudy days.

Monthly average Waikoloa weather: temperature, rainfall and cloud cover
Average temperatures in Waikoloa range between 70°F and 80°F (21 and 27°c). August is the warmest month, and January the coolest.
Rain here is very rare, with less then one inch of rain falling 9 months per year, and a total annual amount of rain of only 9 inches. Compare this to the 27 inches in Kona or the 141(!) inches in Hilo, and you know why this destination is so popular.
Daily average weather in Waikoloa: air temperature and cloud cover on a hour-by-hour basis
There are large differences in cloud cover throughout the day, even at the sunny and dry resort coast. You will have the most chance to see the sun in the morning around sunrise, while after midday the chance of clouds increases rapidly and peaks at 3 pm and 4 pm.
Still, about half the days of the year are sunny around this time. These are far better odds than any other place on the Big Island for sunny skies!
The average hourly trends for the air temperature are very normal. A pleasant 70°F (21°c) during nighttime, rising to 80°F (27°c) in the afternoon. Keep in mind that these are air temperatures, and that you may get very warm when in direct sunlight.
