With a setting that is more intimate (but offers less luxury) than those of the resorts or hotels on Hawaii Bed and Breakfasts are a wonderful way to get to know the island.
While most BnB’s on this side of the island offer good value and good service we highlight 3 of them as they stand out above the rest because of both the value and the views they offer.
1: Hale Kai Hawaii
Hale Kai means “house on the Ocean”, and that is exactly what it is. They offer oceanfront accommodations and a spectacular panoramic view of the ocean and Hilo Bay. The sunrises are worth getting up early for (seriously!), and their front lawn overlooks the popular Honoli’i surf spot.
Located 2 miles from historic Hilo town this BnB has good access to everything the Hilo side of Hawaii island has to offer.

Located 2 miles from downtown Hilo, this B&B offers a peaceful, private location that tries to bring to mind a feeling of “Old Hawaii”. There are 3 rooms with private entrance, bathrooms. Breakfast is served on the shared lanai.

3: Hilo Bay Oceanfront Bed & Breakfast
As their name suggests this is a wonderful location to see Hilo Bay and to watch the sun rise and the ships, boats, kayaks, canoes, stand up paddle boards, and ocean wildlife in Hilo Bay. They offer a delicious and local breakfast which is almost entirely sourced from ingredients from their garden or the local farmers market.
