- An introduction to ziplining
This article will explain everything you need to know about ziplining on Maui, including a breakdown of the five companies.
What is the best zipline on Maui?
That depends, of course, on what you are looking for.
All ziplines on Maui work hard to excel at what they do (and it shows!), but they all have their different highlights. Some are especially family-friendly, other lines are more geared to beginners, have a really great location, and so on.
Below we list what we think is the best zipline option for scenery, families, beginners, value, price, and excitement:
Jungle Ziplines is built within the jungle, enveloped in a thick canopy with tropical plants and flowers in every direction and is GREAT for people wanting to drink in the Maui jungle. It also offers the most affordable zipline option on Maui.
Kapalua ziplines is very well-suited for couples. The entire course has dual lines, so you can go together as a couple on all the lines.
Kapalua ziplines offers a perfect fit for families due to its combination of activities as part of the zip-line tour. Not only will you get to experience 4 or 6 lines, but Kapalua is home to a 360-foot suspension bridge, the longest in Hawaiʻi – a crossing that participants of all ages will remember for some time.
Maui Zipline allows kids as young as 5 to give it a try. All the lines are dual-track, allowing parents to zip alongside their child. Finally, with a max length of just 900 feet, beginners will find Maui Zipline to be approachable, and a good first introduction to what ziplining is all about.
Value seekers should head over to North Shore Ziplines. Their lines are among the cheaper options and offer a little bit of everything: a good variety of lines, multiple aerial platforms and towers, suspension bridges, good views of the ocean, and lines that run right through the tree tops.
The 5-zipline course of Jungle Ziplines is the most affordable zipline option on Maui. It also the most scenic option on the island as the lines run within the jungle, enveloped in a thick canopy with tropical plants and flowers in every direction.
Adventure seekers will be happy with the (currently closed) Kaʻanapali 8-line adventure tour by Skyline Hawaiʻi, which is in our opinion the most epic course on Maui.

What is ziplining?
Zipline is a non-motorized experience in which a participant is hooked onto a cable via a harness and then rides (aka zips) down the length of the cable using gravity. The adrenaline rush comes from the speed of the ride and from a feeling of weightlessness provided by the harness and cable as you “fly” across long distances. Zipline courses differ in their length and intensity, but all are built in scenic places around the island.
What to expect on a zipline tour
Zipline tours generally begin with a short safety instruction and a fitting/introduction to your harness. After, you are transported to the start of the “course,” i.e. the first zipline. Some courses are designed so that the beginning of the next zipline is at the end of the one before it. Other courses require a short walk or hike to reach the next one. Depending on the tour, there may be extra stops and activities, or cultural explanations, as you make your way through the course.
Usually, zip line tours take between 2 and 3 hours. Other good things to know about ziplining:
- Ziplining is always guided. Each line, staff will assist with your gear and ensure safety.
- Some companies offer “dual-track” ziplines. Dual-track means that there are two lines (tracks) next to each other, allowing people to ride side-by-side with friends and family.
- You will wear a safety harness throughout the experience, including the walk or hike between tracks. These harnesses only come in limited sizes, which is why you will see size and/or weight restrictions (and they will differ by company).
- No prior experience or personal gear is necessary to zipline, but you will be required to wear close-toed shoes. Helmets and gloves are provided.
Zipline Tours on other Hawaiian islands
Because of the tropical nature, waterfalls, and volcanoes, ziplining is a popular activity on all Hawaiian islands. We have written comparisons of all zipline offerings in the state:
